The Pittwater Offshore Men’s Shed is proud to present the inaugural Pittwater Offshore Community Awards, honouring the everyday heroes of our unique water-access-only community.
The POSMS Pittwater Offshore Community Awards celebrate the spirit of our unique, water-access-only community by recognising the unsung heroes who keep it connected, creative, safe, and afloat – often literally.
Each award reflects a valued dimension of community life. Below are the award titles, descriptions, and criteria.

Award categories

 

1. Community Driver of the Year Award 🚤

Recognising dependable, friendly & courteous drivers — from ferries and water taxis to community vehicles, buggies and boats — who help keep our community moving come rain, shine, wind or swell.
Criteria:
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to helping others get where they need to go
  • Known for their courteous, respectful, and community-minded attitude
  • Dependable, safe, and always ready to lend a hand (and a lift)

2. Offshore Community Business Award 🛍️

Recognising a local business that goes above and beyond to support and uplift the offshore community.
Criteria:
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to community connection, care, or contribution
  • Supports local events, initiatives, or services — formally or informally
  • Known for generosity of spirit, reliability, or adding unique value to offshore life

3. Community Communicator of the Year Award 📢

Celebrating the person who keeps us all informed, connected, and in the loop — online, offline, or on the water.
Criteria:
  • Constructive, relevant and informed contributions via offline or social media
  • Keeps the community informed in a positive & timely manner with a calm and inclusive voice

4. Helping Hand Award 🙌

Celebrating individuals who contribute meaningfully behind the scenes, often without seeking recognition.
Criteria:
  • Selflessly supports community activities or people
  • Avoids the spotlight, motivated by contribution, not personal gain
  • Someone people trust and count on — often the first to lend a hand

5. Offshore SOS Award 🆘

Acknowledging those who keep the offshore community safe, healthy, or connected.
Criteria:
  • Dedication in challenging or critical roles (e.g. safety, wellbeing, informal support)
  • Known for availability and reliability
  • Holds the community’s trust and appreciation

6. Nature Nurturer Award 🌿

Celebrating those who go the extra mile to care for and protect the natural environment around our offshore community.
Criteria:
  • Shows commitment to preserving local ecosystems, flora/fauna or natural spaces
  • Initiates or participates regularly in environmental or sustainability projects

7. Creative Spark Award 🎨

Recognising individuals or groups who bring colour, creativity and imagination to offshore life through the arts.
Criteria:
  • Contributes to community through visual arts, music, performance, writing or creative projects
  • Uses creativity to connect people, spark dialogue or uplift community spirit

8. Spirit of Offshore Life Award 🌊

Celebrating those who provide long-term leadership and selfless service to improve offshore life.
Criteria:
  • Consistently serves the community over many years
  • Widely recognised as a dependable, go-to person who helps maintain community cohesion
  • Embodies community-first values and spirit

Who can submit a nomination?

Anyone in the Pittwater offshore community is welcome to nominate — including individuals, families, or community groups.

Who can be nominated?

Nominees can be individuals, businesses, or informal community contributors living, working, or volunteering in the Pittwater offshore area, as long as they meet the criteria for the specific award they are nominated for.

What should I include in my nomination?

Be specific! Share a short story, an example, or detail that shows why your nominee stands out. A photo or anecdote is a great bonus.

How many nominations can I make?

You can nominate as many people for as many awards categories as you feel are worthy. Please include your reasons for nominating them in the form.

Can I nominate a group for an award, rather than a person?

Yes! Group nominations are fine, please remember to explain your reasons for nominating the group.

Can I nominate myself?

No - please stick to nominating other people you think make a contribution to our community.

Can I nominate someone anonymously?

You can ask to stay anonymous — just mention this in the form.

When do nominations open?

Nominations open on Friday 1st August 2025.

When do nominations close?

Nominations close on Monday 25th August 2025. Late submissions won’t be considered, so don’t miss out!

When will the list of nominees be announced?

A list of final nominees for each category will be announced on Monday 1st September 2025.

Who decides the winners?

Winners will be based on a public vote, moderated by the POSMS Committee.

When will the winners be announced?

The award winners will be announced at the POSMS Black Tie Ball on Saturday 13th September 2025, and later on the POSMS website and in the Pittwater Offshore Newsletter.
