"Lights On Pittwater" – A Navigation Safety Project by POSMS
Each evening, dozens of offshore residents rely on small boats to travel between the mainland and the islands of Pittwater. But far too many of these vessels are travelling at night without proper navigation lights—putting lives at risk. To address this growing safety issue, the Pittwater Offshore Men’s Shed (POSMS) is launching "Lights On Pittwater", an initiative to provide portable, battery-powered navigation and stern lights to local residents who need them most. Our goal is to reduce the risk of accidents and near-misses on the water by making safety equipment more accessible—especially to young people and community members experiencing financial hardship.
Sat 12th July 2025 - from 9am - Bayview Baths
Johnson Bros Marine will be donating 20 sets of lights for offshore residents whose boats don’t currently have any nav lights. POSMS will also be offering nav light repairs on the day. Johnson Bros and Suzuki Marine will be hosting the day with a sausage sizzle, coffee and tea. There will also be prizes on the day - 4x$100 JB Marine vouchers and your chance to win a Suzuki Inflatable boat drawn at 11am.
This project is proudly run by volunteers through POSMS, a registered member of the Australian Men’s Shed Association. If your business would like to support Lights On Pittwater through equipment donations or sponsorship, we’d love to hear from you. Let’s keep our waterways safe—and lit—for everyone.
